Mother of Many Other Companies
If we were to take a careful look at the history of the Opel Olympia, you will notice that companies such as in South Africa, the body of their Chevrolet 2500, 3800 and 4100 series can be well traced to the Opel Rekord, which had its roots from Opel Olympia. The South Africa Chevrolet is identical to the Opel Rekord and the only distinction is the 4 or 6 cylinder engines that were installed. These vehicles were also assembled in Iran as the Chevrolet Royal. This assembly was by Iran general motors.
In the United Kingdom, the Opel Olympia found its way as the Carlton, which featured a slanted front end that was shared with the Cavalier and Chevette. The ford Granada later on outsold these vehicle models.
In Venezuela, the Opel Rekord was produced as a successor of the Chevrolet Chevette though it maintained the same name. The car continued to be sold through 1984 and 1986 and is seen to day.
In 1982, the Vauxhall Carlton’s were only distinguishable from the Opel Rekord’s by the badges on the vehicle; otherwise the sheet metal was identical. The vehicle has continued to take several forms with the changing times.
