History and Models

The Opel Olympia of 1935 was a true 4-seater vehicle that had a 1.3-liter, 4-cylinder, side valve. The 24 HP engine was capable of 95 km/h. the drive was from the rear wheels through a 3-speed gearbox. In 1937, the gearbox was added to 4-speed. The vehicle had front suspension with a live axle at the back and semi-elliptic leaf springs.  The vehicle was available in two models that is, as a convertible and as a two-door salon.

In 1937, the new engine was introduced and had a capacity of 1488cc. It was able to produce 37 hp but maintained the top speed of 112 km/h. the vehicles body got a facelift and in addition to its predecessors, there was the inclusion of a 6-light LV.

The body of the Opel Olympia became modernized in 1950 but the other specifications remained the same. It was in March 1953 that the eighteen-year-old body of the Opel Olympia was completely replaced with a modern pontoon body. The new model was called Opel Olympia Rekord. Successors of the Opel Olympia Rekord were made and were given a separate name removing the name Olympia. It was then simply known as the Opel Rekord.

The original Opel Olympia was revived in 1967 and was a luxury version of the current Opel Kadett B. This vehicle was referred to as the Opel Olympia A. it was not that successful and was replaced in 1970 by the Opel Ascona.
