Opel Olympia
The Opel Olympia is one the revolutionary cars that has been embedded into history. The Opel Olympia is a car that was produced by the Germany carmaker Opel. It is a small family car which was produced in anticipation of the 1935 Berlin Olympic Games. The vehicle was made in two versions before the Second World War. It initially had a 1.3-liter engine in the OL38 versionwhich was later developed to 1.5-liter overhead valve unitengine. This was the first mass produced vehicle in Germany to have an all steel unitized body. New technology was able to reduce the vehicles weight by 180 kilograms making it more marketable.
The vehicle was received well into the motor market and several thousands of vehicles were eventually produced. The production plant of the Opel Olympia at Russelsheim came to a halt in 1940 as a result of the World War II when it was severely damaged by attacks. The plant had to undergo a reconstruction that saw it back into business in 1947. By the end of 1949, almost 26000 of the vehicles had been made.
The cars came to be known as Olympia Rekord in 1953. The name Olympia was dropped in 1957. There were nearly 26000 cars built, most of which were for export purposes. Some changes were done to the model in 1950 to include a new front end, more chrome and modern column gear change. This gave the car the change it needed in the changing times.
The vehicle was a class to reckon with at the time of the Berlin Olympic Games. Many distinguished personnel from Germany and many countries from all over the world used it as their official vehicle.
